Start with measured dimensions
Record walls, doors, windows, stacks, existing connections and ceiling height. Allow for the thickness of the finished build-up. Check door swings and access to the shower, drawers and washing machine as well as fixture dimensions. The plan must work in daily use.
Plan the shower and drainage together
For a level-access shower, check the space needed for the drain, pipework and falls. An existing slab cannot always accommodate a recessed drain. Agree finished floor and threshold levels before screeding; do not cut structural elements to fit a preferred drain model.
Supports and maintenance access
Provide supports for the actual water heater, vanity, concealed cistern and glass specified. Keep valves, filters and serviceable connections accessible. Coordinate tile layout, niches and access panels on one drawing instead of adjusting them after tiling.
Check before closing the walls
- Testing of water pipes, drains and ventilation.
- An electrician’s agreed layout for equipment, protection and lighting.
- Photographs of concealed services with their positions measured.
